“Susanne is incredibly perfectionistic. As the director of Jongensjaren and Het Meesterwerk, two 48-hour films for which I also served as co-screenwriter, I was extremely impressed by the extent to which Susanne had already fully thought through her character. You have to imagine that for Jongensjaren, for example, we didn’t have a script until around 2 a.m. on Saturday. And then, at around 8:30, she came to me with a fully developed backstory for her character — things that I, as the writer, hadn’t even thought about yet. “Wow,” I remember thinking at the time. How did she find the time for this? Morning yoga clearly does wonders. 🙂

She ultimately — and deservedly — won Best Leading Role for Jongensjaren, and working with her on Het Meesterwerk was also a pleasure. Sometimes, though, you have to give Susanne a bit of space. There were moments when most of the crew was already set, but Susanne still wanted to take a moment to really figure out how to convincingly play being hanged. Or when the dialogue in another scene didn’t quite feel right yet. At moments like that, you need to let Susanne do her work and sense when it’s time to move on. Because if you can give her that space, you know something potentially very beautiful is coming.

At the same time, Susanne is also simply a wonderfully kind person to work with, with a big heart. I will certainly keep her in mind for future roles.”
